Trying to get pregnant?

There are a number of reasons why it may be difficult to get pregnant. In some cases there is more than one cause, therefore it is recommended to evaluate both the male and female partners at the same time. If you experienced any of the following it may have an impact on your fertility:

Female

  • Maternal age over 35
  • Trying to conceive naturally for more than 6 months
  • History of miscarriages
  • Irregular periods
  • Pelvic pain
  • Previous gynecological surgery
  • Aware of a precondition such as PCOS, (polycystic ovary syndrome), endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, etc.
  • Family history of fertility problems or premature menopause

Male

  • Paternal age over 45
  • Known sperm problems or recent abnormal semen analysis
  • Social history of excessive smoking, alcohol, or drugs
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Aware of a precondition such as varicocele, hernia, testicular pain, cysts, undescended testicle, etc.

The initial testing may include:

Female Testing

Assessment of egg reserve & ovulation

  • Hormone Testing:
    • FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)
    • AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone)
    • Estrogen level
  • Pelvic Ultrasound – to examine uterus and ovaries
  • AFC (Antral Follicle Count) – to determine your egg reserve

Assessment of endometrial cavity and tubes

  • HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) commonly known as the dye test – to check if your tubes are open and inner lining of uterus is healthy

Male Testing

  • Semen analysis

In certain cases advanced fertility testing may be necessary and include:

  • Expanded hormone panel
  • MRI of pelvis
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Laparoscopy

Male Testing

  • Sperm DNA fragmentation testing (SCSA)
  • Male hormone panel

  • Urological evaluation

Based on your test results our fertility specialist will assign a diagnosis and create a treatment plan.
