PGT Preimplantation Genetic Testing/ Gender Selection
Why PGT is used in Fertility Treatment?
- Increase chances of successful pregnancy
- Reduce risk of miscarriage
- Screen for inherited genetic diseases
- Select embryos with normal chromosome numbers
- Improve IVF success rates, especially for patients over 35
- Gender selection
Gender Selection
With PGT you can select a male or female embryo that will be implanted into the uterus.
Types of PGT
- PGT-A
checks for chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidy) - PGT-M
tests for specific inherited genetic disorders - PGT-SR
detects structural chromosome rearrangements
Understanding Your Options
Genetic Testing:
In fertility care, genetic testing is an umbrella term referring to several different tests used to evaluate the genetic health of intended parents, sperm, or embryos.
- For the parents, the genetic test is carrier screening
- Sperm, the genetic test, is DNA Fragmentation
- Embryos: the genetic test is PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR
Genetic Carrier Screening:
Carrier screening is a simple blood test used to determine whether one or both partners carry genes for inherited conditions that could be passed on to a child. We recommend screening for both partners at the same time, especially before IVF or family planning, to provide a more complete genetic assessment early in the process.
PGT:
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is an advanced screening performed during IVF that tests embryos for chromosomal abnormalities or specific genetic conditions before embryo transfer, helping support embryo selection and pregnancy outcomes.
Gender Selection
Gender selection may be possible during IVF with PGT, where embryos can be identified by sex chromosomes before transfer, allowing intended parents to select the sex of the embryo when appropriate.
Sperm DNA fragmentation
Sperm DNA fragmentation is a test that evaluates the quality and integrity of DNA. High levels of DNA fragmentation may be associated with infertility, poor embryo development, recurrent miscarriage, or lower IVF success rates in some patients.
